Immersed in a culture of your choice, Language allows you to step into a world beyond your own and experience it through communication rather than translation. Through films, music, pronunciation practice, and mastering verb conjugations, the class goes beyond vocabulary to explore cultural traditions, social norms, and ways of thinking that shape how people live in different countries. Language learning becomes a gateway to understanding new identities, broadening perspectives, and building empathy for experiences different from your own. The class is conducted entirely in the target language, creating an authentic environment that encourages confidence, fluency, and active participation. One of the most significant projects of the year is a collaborative movie production, where students apply their speaking, writing, and cultural knowledge creatively.
The memes on the right are memes created in language about our school culture at MAMS and how we (the students) perceive MAMS to be. The project was such a fun way to interpret our views of the school in a way that incorporated the target language. Trouble Viewing image? Click here to view the slide show of memes.
Additionally, the class also requires students to create a listening log of 10 different listening activities done in the target language. This has helped me discover new songs, new movies, and audio-books in Spanish while simultaneously teaching me how to write bigger paragraphs. Trouble Viewing PDF? Click Here
