Physics

Course Description

Physics is a favorite of mine. The course is decently challenging as the student has to synthesize solutions to a problem by using the formulae learned in class. Hence, solving physics problems is comparable to a puzzle where one has to identify the key features of the question to employ the correct method that would yield a sensible solution. Furthermore, it’s also interesting to learn about classical physics to get a rudimentary understanding of the world.

Acceleration on an Inclined Plane Investigation

This is the first lab of the year, and one is tasked to investigate the relationship between the angle of an inclination and the resulting acceleration. To do this, a platform to slide the cart was raised on one side to create an angle which can be calculated using the hypotenuse and the height of the books. Next, the acceleration is obtained with the slope of the velocity that is measured by Vernier lab. After experimentation, the student must produce a comprehensive write up explaining the lab and the physics behind it.

Dynamics Lab

The Dynamics Lab was very interesting because the group of students had to set up their own design to investigate a particular formula that is relevant to a pulley system. For our experiment, we decided to investigate the relationship between acceleration of a cart attached to a pulley with a weight on the other side and the angle of an inclination. Then, each member has to produce a write-up that is about one page long including all of the necessary explanations and discussions of errors.
