Hobbies and Extracurriculars

Art

I have loved art since I can remember. I was obsessed with painting and drawing even in preschool, and I continue to love and enjoy the activity in my free time. My artwork submission in the Scholastic Fair led me to receive a Regional Gold Key in Painting. I have experimented with many different mediums. Some of the ones I’ve worked with include, charcoal, wool, book paper, pencil, colored pencil, yarn, watercolor, and oil and acrylic paint. Right now, my favorite medium is oil paint, but I still like exploring other areas of art.

Hiking

Ever since I was a kid, I would love to hike in different places. I have continued to hike around the world, from Hawaii to Japan! Some of the more notable places I’ve hiked are Mt. Fuji in Japan, Mt. Rinjani in Bali, Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and Yosemite National Park in California. Hiking is a fulfilling activity because you need to push yourself to get the reward of a beautiful view at the top.

Travelling

I also love travelling around the world and experiencing new cultures and places. I have been to 17 countries so far and hope to see many more in the future! My most recent trip was over the summer, where I visited the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. Each place that I’ve been to has showed me a different way of life and landscape, forever modifying my perspective of the world. For this reason, it’s hard for me to pick a favorite place, as I think each place offers a unique experience. My biggest travel recommendation is to talk to the locals and explore the area, as well as trying lots of food from the local cuisine.

Pickleball

One of my favorite activities to do with my friends is play pickleball. I started playing my freshman year and enjoy spending my free time outside in the fresh air. I competed in two local competitions, and am excited to do more!

Guitar

Another way I spend my time outside of school is playing guitar. I find that music works my brain in a different way than I do in my academics, and it feels good to produce something with my hands.
