French at Mass Academy takes a very immersive approach to the language-learning process. One of the big focuses of this class is to exercise our French knowledge, and therefore, we speak French for nearly every conversation we can. We listen to songs and watch movies to help learn vocabulary, and we’ve learned multiple tenses through interactive activities. Below are some assignments we have worked on.
One of our biggest assignments is our vocab journal. Every quarter year, we are expected to define 120 newly-learned French words in the journal using French. These words can be verbs, adjectives, nouns, or anything that we’ve seen or read that we didn’t previously know the definition of. For this vocab journal, I got many of my words from the movies, "Les Choristes" and "Panique au Village". My vocab journal is here on the right.
We also write essays in class. One of our essays is about our daily routine, and we had to write it in the past-tense. This was a mid-year essay, and it showcases our knowledge of French after around 3-4 months of learning. The assignment let us exercise our newly-learned vocabulary related to time, daily activities, and verbs. The essay is a significant mark of my progress in French class. The essay is linked on the left.
