Intermediate Spanish

Before coming to Mass Academy, I had taken French for a year, as well as Latin and Spanish in high school. However, Mrs. Wildfong’s class was unlike any of the language classes I have previously taken. While we still learn important grammatical concepts, Spanish this year is less defined by grammar alone. We immerse ourselves through different games and activities all in Spanish during class, as well as supplement our class activities with movies and songs in Spanish.

Casa Essay

The Casa Essay was the first essay we completed in Spanish. Having just learned the general house vocabulary, direction vocabulary, and the present tense, this essay was a reflection of our general Spanish comprehension around the beginning of the year. To complete this assignment, we took four pictures of rooms in our houses, and using these pictures we had to write descriptions about each room, as well as what was in that room. We couldn’t exceed one page of double spaced words, but still had to be as descriptive as possible when describing each room.

Rutina del Día

For this assignment, we had to describe our typical day during the week. This included our morning routine, when/how we went to school, our typical school day schedule, then our typical afternoon/evening schedule. We had just learned how to use reflexive verbs, and this essay was a way for us to incorporate them through regular activities people partake in each day. This assignment allowed me to practice writing in Spanish, and particularly helped me feel comfortable using reflexive verbs. I also found this assignment interesting because I was able to reflect on my day, causing me to start planning out my days to help stay organized.
