Physics

Physics is taught by Ms. Chase. In this class, we learn about the fundamental principles of physics and the laws governing the universe. Both the calculus and the algebra based approaches are explored in this class to get a holistic understanding of a concept. We learn about the different types of forces, motion, energy, and how they interact with each other. We also learn about the different types of energy and how they can be converted from one form to another. We do labs to understand the concepts better.

Assignments

Ramp-Projectile Optimization POW

In the problem, a puck is launched up a ramp at an angle of 38°. The puck lands a distance away from the ramp. The goal is to find the angle of the ramp that will maximize the distance the puck lands away from the ramp. The problem is solved using the conservation of energy and the work-energy principle. Friction and gravity play a huge role in the problem. The solution is then verified using a computer program.

Dynamics Lab Report

In the lab, we used a dynamics cart and a track to study the relationship between force, mass, and acceleration. We used a motion sensor to collect data and analyze the motion of the cart. We used Vernier Graphical Analysis app to analyze the data and create graphs. We also calculated the mass of the cart and compared it to the actual value. We learned about the concepts of force, mass, acceleration, and how they are related to each other.
