This essay analyzes how a satirical piece of literature uses satire to convey a message compared to a traditional approach. The 2 pieces I chose were "Why do politicians make promises they can’t keep?" which is a straightforward informational article while the video "Trump Vows To Outlaw Electricity To Secure Powerful Amish Vote" is a satire by The Onion. In the essay, I write about how the satire in the video conveys the message more effectively than the article.
At the start of the year, we wrote a skit script about the book Walden by Henry David Thoreau, which we were tasked to read over the summer. In the skit, we portrayed Thoreau if he were to become a clergymen and were in the confession box. He takes confessions from people and gives them advice based on his experiences in the woods. The skit was a fun way to understand the book and its themes.
