Abstract: For an instructor looking for interesting topics for undergraduate mathematics enrichment, the study of grids lends itself very nicely to student investigation using simple materials. This module integrates an abstract treatment with concrete applications and hands on expermentations. Pointers are given towards open-ended student investigations. In fact, it is advisable to start with experiments with models so that the students gain insight into the complexity of the problem, and appreciate the simplicity of the combinatorial solution the the rigidity problem of grids.
