Martial arts has been my longest running extracurricular. I have been training at Sterling Martial Arts for about 8 years now,and have been competing at tournaments for most of that time. This activity has helped me to learn general life skills, like perseverance, respect, discipline, and focus. It is also one of my most important social outlets. Visit the Sterling Martial Arts Website.
Music and instrumentation have certainly become my most time consuming hobby. When it comes to instruments, I play oboe, saxophone, and even english horn. Whether it be school bands, or orchestras outside of academics, I have put as much time into music as possible with personal practice and learning. Because of this, music has taught me the most about dexterity, practice, repetition, and it has also been an excellent way to branch out socially. I now play mostly with the Worcester Youth Orchestras. You can check out their website here at Worcester Youth Orchestras.
The Community Harvest Project is a group who collect and harvest goods and crops to support communities with food. It is also a common way for people to experience harvesting and what needs to happen for our food to be exported.
A Mass Academy sponsored service opportunity, a number of us students went to Tatnuck Magnet School to provide STEM lessons to students of various grades. This event supports both the STEM education of those students who recieved these lessons, but also enriched those of us who participated with teaching experience.
