5/26/98 -- Bolton Flats, Bolton
Birds observed included 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 2 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 1 LEAST SANDPIPER, 2 BANK SWALLOWS and 2 WILLOW FLYCATCHERS. (report from Chuck Caron).

5/26/98 -- Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, Worcester
Thrushes included 3 VEERY, 1 SWAINSON'S THRUSH, and 10 WOOD THRUSH. Migrant warblers included 2 BLACK-THROATED GREEN, 1 BLACKBURNIAN, 1 BLACKPOLL, and 4 BLACK-AND-WHITE (report from John Liller).

5/20/98 -- High Ridge WMA, Gardner
Between 5:30 and 6:30 am at the Smith Street end there were 2 AM. BITTERN, 6 HOODED MERGANSER (1 ad. female with 5 chicks), 1 N. HARRIER, 1 SORA (calling), 1 BAY-BREASTED WARBLER. (report from Tom Pirro).

5/9/98 -- Gardner migration count
The following are highlights from Gardner 5-9-98 for the NAMC between 5Am and 12noon. A total of 82 species and 796 individuals were tallied. Despite the cool , damp weather and occasionally being "swallowed" up by roving fog the birding was at time great! A few times I could not keep up the warbler (18 species , 207 individuals) activity. Most of the "earlier type migrates were well represented. The Hightlight: 2 Common Loon , 2 American Bittern , 2 Virginia Rail , 1 Northern goshawk , 2 Least Flycatcher , 1 Gr. Crested Flycatcher , 1 Marsh Wren , 2 Warbling Verio , 4 Nashville Warb. , 15 Nothern Parula , 2 Magnolia Warb. , 10 Blk Thr. As part of the North American Migration Count held on Saturday, May 9, 81 specie s were identified in the Phillipston/Templeton area. Highlights include: 1 Am. Bittern; 1 Red-shouldered Hawk; 1 Solitary Sandpiper; 1 R.-t. Hummingbird; 5 Le ast Flycatcher; 1 Veery, 8 Wood Thrush; 3 Hermit Thrush; 3 Blue-headed Vireo; 2 Warbling Vireo; 1 Red-eyed Vireo; 15 species of warblers including a Black-thr oated Blue; 1 Prairie; 22 Black-throated Green; 14 Yellowthroat; 28 Ovenbird; 4 Northern Waterthrush and 2 Am. 5/9/98 -- Ashburnham and Westminster migration count
Highlights include 6 common loons, 3 double-crested cormorants, 1 American Bittern, 1 sharp-shinned hawk, 2 Virginia Rails, 2 solitary sandpipers, 3 pileated woodpeckers, 3 eastern kingbirds, 15 rough-winged swallows, 1 cliff swallow, 4 red-breasted nuthatches, 3 golden-crowned kinglets, 18 species of warblers including 1 blue-winged, 4 Nashville, 6 northern parula, 2 blackburnian, 2 pine, 2 prairie, 1 palm, and 2 American redstart, 2 scarlet tanagers, 3 rose-breasted grosbeaks, 8 dark-eyed juncos, 9 bobolink, 8 purple finches, and 1 evening grosbeak. 3/31/98 -- Lake Chauncy, Westboro
One Ruddy Duck still remains here. Also seen were 2 Am. Kestrels, 1 Merlin, 3 Killdeer, and a Belted Kingfisher. At Little Chauncy, there were 2 Wood Ducks, 14 Ring-necked Ducks, and a Great Blue Heron (reported by Anne Boover)

3/30/98 -- Lake Chauncy, Westboro
Anne Boover reports 5 Ruddy Ducks at Chauncy Lake, as well as 3 Am. Woodcock, 4 Ring-necked Ducks, and 2 Wood Ducks at the Fisheries and Wildlife Area in Westboro.

3/28/98 -- Brookfield area
On the Forbush Bird Club trip, the Red-headed Woodpecker at 112 Long Hill Rd. in West Brookfield was easily found, along with a Red-bellied Woodpecker and 2 Pileated Woodpeckers. Two adult Bald Eagles were seen perched along the shore of Lake Quaboag, and an early Pine Warbler was seen and heard singing at Lake Ashaway. Common Mergansers were numerous, but the Tree Swallows were surprisingly absent from their usual spot along the Quaboag River. (reported by Rick Quimby)

3/25/98 -- Institute Park, Worcester
Rick Quimby reports that the female Northern Shoveler and female Gadwall are still present. Also present today are two Wood Ducks (male) and a male Gadwall, along with 14 Hooded Mergansers.
