Mass Academy humanities is taught by Mrs. Small. The course covers a variety of topics, from ancient civilizations all the way to historical satires. Each topic is usually a combination of history and literature. Our assignments are very diverse, from skits to essays and readings.
For this essay, we were asked to compare the effectiveness of two short stories at conveying a certain theme. Both the stories, “The Pedestrian” and “There Will Come Soft Rains,” were written by famous dystopian author Ray Bradbury, and display many similar ideas.
For this essay, we had to analyze a satire of our choosing. I decided to choose a satire named “Body Ritual Among the Nacirema,” written by notable anthropologist Horace Mitchell Miner. The piece satirizes the field of anthropology claiming it to be biased and hypocritical.
