My Personal Interests

Learn more about me and my life outside of school!

a picture of me and my WA friends. Before Mass Academy

For my freshman and sophomore years of high school, I attended Worcester Academy, in Worcester, MA. At WA, I met some of my best friends during my freshman and sophomore year of high school. In school, I led the Medical Explorations clubs, started an American Red Cross Club, and joined the Varsity swim and field hockey team! Attending WA definitely helped foster my love for math and science, but I am extremely happy with my decision to come to Mass Academy for their specialized program.

My Family

Currently living with me are my parents, twin sister, little brother, and aaji (grandmother). Both my parents immigrated to the United States from Mumbai, India before I was born. They are both general dentists who own practices in Paxton, Northborough, and Gardner. My twin sister also happens to by my best friend. I often find despite our many shared qualities and experiences, we are both wildly different people. She also attends Mass Academy of Math and Science and loves volleyball and music. All my grandparents have lived in Mumbai, India while I was growing up, so in my house Hindi, Marathi, and Gujurati (all languages from different parts of India) are all spoken. Last but not least, is my little brother, who just turned 9 years old. He loves playing soccer and learning any and everything about zoology and different animals. He definitely pushes me to be a more actively curious person because of how inquisitive he is.

Most of my family lives in India, so as a result, most of my non-immediate relatives live 9 and a half hours away! I even have cousins who live in Dubai and Australia! This makes visiting them much harder, but when we do, the trips are always worth it!

Travel

Travel has always been a huge part of my life. My family loves traveling, and I love experiencing new cultures and of course, trying new cuisine!

My favorite places I have been to are India, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kenya, Switzerland, England and Scotland, and Mexico. The places currently on my travel-to-do list is Singapore and Australia (to visit my cousins)! One day, I hope to go on a tour of Asia and visit new places and experience new cultures.

Community Service

This past year, I started an American Red Cross Club at my sending school where we got to give back to our local community and provide more service opportunities to students in the school. Last year, during the pandemic, I organized projects to give thanks to healthcare workers, help veterans get vaccinated, and collect donations for a local charity.

Over the summer, I also started volunteering at the Amrit Sabha Adult Health Care Center. This volunteer service included preparing and serving food, taking the blood pressure and weight of the patients, planning activities and games, organizing and filling out paperwork, and doing anything else to help the residents and keep their spirits raised. I loved this opportunity, especially since I got to interact with the sweetest people and practice my speaking skills in Hindi!

During junior year, I tutored at Mass Academy through the Rising Stars Initiative (RSI). Through RSI, I was able to tutor 2 elementary students in math for around 5 months. I loved seeing their progress throughout our time together!

Since sophomore, I have also been tutoring with the Indian Society of Worcester (ISW). I have been tutoring one elementary student in math for two years now! We definitely have a very close bond and I love seeing her confidence grow in math every year! I also tutor a third grader in English, giving her lessons on grammar, writing prompts, and fun stories to read.

In junior year, I took part in the Mass Academy Community Service Club (MACS). In this club, we are exposed to different types of community service, including a park cleaning on Earth Day, teaching refugee children about topics in science and math, or painting kindness rocks to leave around Worcester.
