Mathematical Modeling is taught by Mr. Regele. This course covers competition math, some modeling problems but mainly focuses on how to approach a problem. Some areas we have covered so far are mods, 3D graphs, infinite series, and circles.
HiMCM stands for “High School Math Competition in Modeling”. High schoolers from all over the world competed, including everyone at Mass Academy. We formed teams of four and prepared for the 4 days given to create a solution to the problem. We were able to choose between two different problems. The one we choose can be seen below.
In math modeling, we also explore the capabilities of Mathematica, a piece of software that works as an incredibly powerful calculator. In this example, we were given a dataset and instructed to find and calculate a median median line. You can see my example below.
