Audie Murphy, who portrays the young soldier in John Huston's The Red Badge of Courage (1951), was, according to his IMDB bio, "the most decorated combat soldier" of the American 1940s. Standing 5'5"/165 cm tall, he was rejected for service by the U.S. Marine Corps on account of his smaller stature.
