Language (Spanish)

2025-01-05

Course Description:

Language, taught by Sra. Wildfong, is an immersive course designed to help students build language proficiency through immersion. In Spanish, students engage in authentic materials such as literature, music, film, games, and collaborative projects, all while engaging solely in the target language. Grammar is taught in meaningful ways, enhancing the ability for students to understand language structure. Overall, they can develop fluency while enjoying the learning process.

Cuando Era Niña

One of my favorite assignments so far this year was this personal essay, where we were instructed to write an essay (entirely in Spanish!) on a significant event from our lives. Using multiple time tenses, such as the present, imperfect, and preterite, I wrote my essay on my knee surgery experience from 3rd grade. This assignment helped me to practice using various time tenses in the same writing piece, as well as use different vocabulary than usual, and practice with different sentence structures.

Listening Logs

Listening is a big part of the language courses, as it is an essential aspect of learning a language, so we do many listening activities both in class (eg. watching media such as Coco or El Internado) and out of class. Listening logs are a term-long assignment where we listen to/watch content, such as movies, tv shows, and songs, entirely in the target language. These listening logs help us to analyze different content in the language and become familiar with more vocabulary, sentence structures, accents, and the language in various contexts.
