- On June 21, 1960, he entered the
Corps of Engineers and began his career in the United States Army.
- Over 31 years of his life
have been devoted to the service of his country.
- As a Professional
Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, Sergeant Major Plant has had a variety
of assignments.

Coordinator Headquarters 8th Infantry Division Support Command, Germany
(a position normally held by a Colonel/LTC), where his responsibilities
included Facilities Manager, Rose Barracks (which consisted of 12
units), The health and welfare of 11,562 soldiers and their families,
and 56 buildings with an operational budget of over $26 million.
- Other
positions included Training NCO for the Post/Engineer School, Fort Belvior, Virginia and Chief Instructor Headquarters first ROTC Region,
Fort Bragg, North Carolina with Duty at Worcester Polytechnic
Institute.
- He has successfully held every leadership position from
Squad Leader, 299th Engineer Battalion, Republic of Vietnam to Brigade
Sergeant Major, responsible for the preparation of Cadets for service as
Commissioned Officers and leaders.

- SGM Plant’s awards and decorations
include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the
Meritorious Service Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army
Commendation Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Republic of Vietnam
Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Army Achievement Medal with Two Oak
Leaf Clusters, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Army Good Conduct
Medal (9th Award).
-On January 27th, 2007, Clarence Plant was awarded the GOOD NEIGHBOR/CATHY DONAHUE AWARD, given annualy by the Worcester County St. Patricks Parade Committee. This award recognizes an individual who has worked to foster a positive relationship in our community. The Good Neighbor Award is given to a friend of the Parade who, through his or her work, warmth, and generosity, has helped to contribute to the Parade's goals.
