ME1520 D Term 2000
Homework 2. Leans and angles
Due: 3 April 2000
Scenario for problems 1-4:
On a slope of 20 degrees a skier going 10m/s makes a turn with a radius of 15m. Neglect air drag.
1. When the skier is headed straight down the fall line, what is the inward lean angle?
2. When the skier is 5 degrees past the fall line, what is the angle between the skier and the slope (on the closest side)?
3. If the coefficient of friction is 0.05, what is the fore-aft lean angle when the skier is headed straight down the fall line, if there is no fore-aft moment transmitted through the skis (i.e., the skier is perfectly balanced fore and aft)?
4. What is the edge angle, assuming geometric carving and skis with a contact length of 170cm and a side cut of 1.32cm?
