Homework 1. Time of decent

Due: 23 March 2000

On a slope that is initially 30deg. a skier descends for 100m from an initial speed of 2m/s, the slope then changes to 10deg. for the next 100m. What is the time of decent for a 80kg skier with a coefficient of drag of 0.5, frontal area of 0.4 m², when the air density is 1.2 kg/m³, and the ski-snow friction coefficient is 0.04?

What is the time of decent for a slope of constant angle that connects the start at the top of the 30deg. slope to the bottom of the 10deg. slope?

useful equation v^2 = 2*a*s
