In math class, we focus on modeling mathematics and discovering beyond the apparent depth of math. So far, we have covered mods and bases, MTFC, and we are now in our pre-calculus unit, working with exeter problems. See below for some examples of assignments from this year!
This was our in-class practice HiMCM. HiMCM is a math competition that all Mass Academy students participate in. Though this competition truly runs for around 2 weeks, it is tradition for us to complete it in 50 hours. It was such a fun experience with friends, working hard on completing a solution to the problem. Unfortunately we cannot publish our solutions online until the results have been released and the competition is fully over. Instead, this is an example of a mock HiMCM that we completed in class. It has a very similar concept and format, covering roller coaster ranking algorithms and much more.

MTFC- Modeling the Future Challence- is another math competition that we are participating in this year. MTFC encourages students to model data and various risks of real-life issues, encouraging careers in actuarial science and STEM. My group chose to focus on gun violence in impoverished areas, modeling the potential correlation between the two issues and how they may be connected.
