CDR Instructions and Statements for the Humanities & Arts Requirements in Spanish

General Instructions:
1) Download the CDR form from the Registrar's Office http://www.wpi.edu/Admin/Registrar (See section "Form for Students")
2) Identify your case according to the last course you took at WPI and according to the descriptions listed below (under "Cases")
3) Copy the "Case" (substitute the brackets with your name and correct pronoun) and paste it on the form in the boxed area that reads SUFFICIENCY ABSTRACT
4) Fill in all the blanks according to the instructions that you see beneath the box.  Please, do not leave anything blank but the Final Grade, which will be assigned by the professor signing the form.
5) Once that you have completed this form, bring it, with a copy of your WPI audit, to Prof. Rivera's office (SL016).  Highlight the courses in Spanish.  The final grade for the sufficiency will be the average of all the courses you have taken as they appear on your audit.  You must have a total of six items related to Spanish on your audit.
6) If you have taken 3 or more years of Spanish in high school you are entitled to the accreditation of 1/3 of a unit.  It it doesn't appear on your audit, you must request this transfer through Academic Advising.  However, one of the Spanish professors must approve the transfer.  You will need his or her signature.

SUFFICIENCY TITLE: "Sufficiency in Spanish"
SUFFICIENCY ABSTRACT: Type in the box provided one of the following cases describing your experience in Spanish.

Cases:

Case 1 – Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with SP 3522.  Advanced Spanish II (In Spanish).

[Your name] completed the Humanities & Arts Requirement by passing a six-course sequence in Spanish. It included the structure of the language; vocabulary building; oral and written expression; listening and reading comprehension; and increasingly sophisticated understanding of contemporary Latin American culture. A variety of fictional and nonfictional texts were read, discussed, and written about. The penultimate course was devoted to developing skills related to conversation. The last course included weekly essays written in Spanish on a variety of topics. 

Case 2 - Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with SP 3523. Topics in Latin American Culture (In Spanish).

[Your name] completed the Humanities & Arts Requirement by passing a six-course sequence in Spanish. The sequence began with intermediate language courses followed by two advanced courses (devoted to conversation and composition in Spanish), and culminated in a seminar on selected cultural topics relevant to the formation and development of modern Latin America. In addition to exams, SP 3523 (Topics in Latin American Culture) required a final paper written in Spanish to successfully complete the course. 

Case 3 - Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with SP 3524. Spanish-American Literature in the 20th Century (In Spanish).

[Your name] completed the Humanities & Arts Requirement by passing a six-course sequence in Spanish. The sequence began with intermediate language courses followed by two advanced courses (devoted to conversation and composition in Spanish), and culminated in a seminar on modern Latin American literature in which works by several representative authors were read and discussed. In addition to exams, SP 3524 (Topics in Latin American Literature) required a final paper written in Spanish to successfully complete the course. 

Case 5 - Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with SP3525. Spanish American Film (In Spanish).

The sequence began with intermediate language courses followed by two advanced courses (devoted to conversation and composition in Spanish), and culminated in a seminar on selected Latin American films produced after the 1980's relevant to the study of modern cultural issues. In addition to exams, SP3525 (Spanish American Film) required a final paper written in Spanish to successfully complete the course. 

Case 6 - Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with SP3526 - Comparative Business Environment (In Spanish).

Case 7 - Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with SP3527. Business Spanish (In Spanish).

Case 8 - Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with SP 3528. Spanish Culture and Civilization.

Case 9 - Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with SP 3529. Caribbeanness: Voices of the Spanish Caribbean.

Case 10 - Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with SP 3530. Spanish Film/Media: Cultural Issues.

Case 11 - Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with SP 3531. Contemporary US Latino Literature & Culture.

The sequence began with intermediate language courses followed by two advanced courses, and culminated in a seminar on modern US/Latino literature in which works by several representative authors were read and discussed. Case 12 - Completion of the Humanities & Arts Requirement ending with an IS/P, seminar, or practicum.

You will type in a brief description of the courses taken and a summary or abstract of your IS/P or Seminar project. In other words, it should be clearly stated that the sequence of five courses for the degree requirement in Spanish ended with a written essay in Spanish (your title for the IS/P or Seminar Project) that explored a topic in Latin American/Spanish culture and civilization, or literature.
