The Battle of Dorneck was fought in the Swiss Canton of Solothurn between the armies of the Habsburg Emperor Maximilian and the Swiss Confederacy. 14,000 Habsburg infantry and 2,000 cavalry were surprised by a Swiss infantry force of 5,200 at the castle of Dorneck. This contemporary woodcut vividly shows the various players on a late medieval battlefield--look for the pop-ups to find out the roles of knights, cannons, and pikemen in combat.
