The Rundown
When Brown B invited us to play in
a small 4321-style tournament, we were more than happy to come. Not only
would it give us more playing time against other schools, but the fact that we
would be in the South New England section meant that this would give us some
experience against teams we'd be playing at sectionals in two weeks time.
Brown had two B teams there, while Coast Guard Academy filled out the fourth
spot in the tournament.
Our first game was with one of the Brown B teams. While they matched our first score to tie it at 1-1, they weren't able to keep up after that. They seemed to be a very young team with quite a bit of potential, but it just wasn't there yet. We took half 7-1, and only allowed one more point in the second half as we were victorious 13-2.
Next up was Brown's second B team, which seemed to have a little more experience than the team we had just beaten. The game was much closer, as they were able to match us score for score. We were able to pull ahead by two points but we couldn't extend our lead past that. We took half 7-5, and came back in the second half with more of the same. Brown was able to pull within one to make the score 10-9, but we kept playing our game and put them away with a final score of 13-10.
For our final game we moved across the street to play next to some abandoned gymnasium that was so ghetto it made us feel at home. We would play Coast Guard Academy, who had won both of their games against the Brown teams, which meant this game would decide the winner of the tournament. Their scores against the Brown teams were similar to ours, so we knew it would be a good game. We came out of the box strong and scored four straight points. Then the Coast Guard boys threw a zone at us and we choked. After four turnovers converted to scores, they had tied the game at four. We finally figured out there zone and were able to break it, as we scored three points in a row to take half 7-4. In the second half we kept our intensity high and extended our lead, taking the game 13-7.
This was our first tournament win of the year, and first time going undefeated in over a year. Our level of play was very high, and was great experience for the upcoming sectionals tournament. A great time was had by all and big thanks go out to the Brown B people who put this all together. Bringin' the ghetto.
