I know we all got scheid's love letter to the team on Tuesday, but I have one of my own to write from a handler's perspective I guess.
We played ridiculously well together this past weekend. I have not ever seen a time or been on a team that has been so cohesive and got along so well. Haha we all freaking love each other on this team, as we all share a love of scheid's mom as well.
In our first game against Clark, I (for one) probably played the shittiest ultimate in the first 4 points that I have played since I have been at WPI, and as a team we really had a hard time. We couldnt swing the disc, make cuts, pop, and had trouble basically getting out of their stifling zone/cup. Mace and Zach came out to tell us and confirm what we had really figured out on our own just earlier, and that was to get more deep looks. The transformation that our team made in a mere POINT turned Clark's zone from a beast into a freaking scared baby (Probably to about a Sippy at age 3 level). We began getting deep looks, and then things opened up underneath to let our cutters run and our handlers work it up the field with Ice-Cold precision. At about this point, we actually decided to play defense as well and we threw the wrath of the 1-3-3 in Clark's face. They had no Idea what to do with it and we began to get D after D after D, which we calmly (most of the time) converted to O points. We had a little trouble with around IO passes to the break side this game, but they got better as the game went on. Clark could not recover as we scored 3 IN A ROW to take it to half and then bageled them in the second. Our Stack O shined in the second half of this game (which, to tell you the truth, I was a bit scared about) and our timed cuts were only getting sharper. We pulled away with chilly O and Smothering, Flaming hot D, thoroughly giving one of our nemesis's a beating.
The second game was less memorable, but no less important. We played OUR game against providence. They were a pretty sloppy team, on O and D, but we did not ever really sink to their level. Our Zone D was having a little trouble when kid was flooded with 3 guys in the middle and they began to get passes up through the cup and up the middle. Our wings recognized this and started to pinch in and help, and this really helped kid out. On offense, we consistently made good cuts, took good looks, and were pretty chilly. Our In-cuts are very good, and one thing that our cutters can work on is sending a couple of people deep RIGHT AWAY when the disc is turned (close to a handler). This will really stretch out teams' Defense and let us come back in hard if the deep look is not there. The only times they really scored were when they threw swilly blades to the wings and got a bit of a break. We played great this game too.
I agree with scheid completely against Hartford. There is nothing else to be said but Crisp and Creamy.
We played our asses off against Brown A. It really did take us a bit to get used to their style of play and the pace of the game. We had a few errors in the first couple of points (dropped discs, hand blocks, bad throws), but that was just the butterflies talking. In the points where we were chilly and composed, our offense flowed better than the milk from scheid's mom's breasts. We scored multiple times on good cuts to the right spots at the right times. On Defense, We played as hard as we could. Granted, their combination of Noel and Vandenberg handling, as well as Mahoney popping, was pretty ridiculous. I heard from one of the guys on their side line during The D point with Fermi, Scheid, and Sippy? in the cup, that they threw 53 passes to score that point and that was the most they had made all year in a point. That was sick. During the second half, we lost to them 6-4, and we were on a run at the end. Guys, we adapted to one of the better teams in the nation and by the end of the game we were pretty much playing them point for point. That is a HUGE accomplishment and I am psyched that we could do it. We WERE faster than them, they ARE human.... They better look out next year.
All I can see from here is us getting better. We are teetering on that edge guys - There is a level of ultimate teams that Brown, Conn College, and Wesleyan are at which we have almost reached. We freaking know we can play with Brown B, and R-Dubs, and hell - we played a sick game against Brown A, but all we need now is practice and experience. We have the drive. We have the talent. We have the Speed. We have the Athleticism. And most importantly, we have the MINDS to do it. We have become a team and everyone else out there better be fucking scared, Because we are a force to be reckoned with.
