Club History
The WPI tennis club was formed during the 2004-2005 academic year to replace the defunct varsity team. Since its inception, the club has grown its membership to over 45 club members that participate year round. The WPI tennis club's mission is to provide a tennis community for recreational and competitive players. The club accomplishes its mission through a variety of on- and off-court activities. During the fall and the spring, the club offers daily outdoor practices that consist of drills, one-on-one coaching, and match play simulation. In the winter, practices are continued once a week indoors. The club has enjoyed significant growth in competitive match play. During its first year, the club participated in only one competitive match, whereas during subsequent academic years, the club competes in about six competitive matches, including the USTA Campus Championship - New England. The club also hosts off-court events to strengthen member relationships. Many of us have become great friends over the years and we frequently hold off-court events. Looking forward, the WPI tennis club seeks to grow current activities to bolster team spirit and to enhance the competitiveness of our team and to find new ways to grow the organization on-campus.
