Welcome to WPI Tennis!
Welcome to the website for WPI Club Tennis! Here you can find information about the club, contact information, rankings and more. Also, be sure to check our calendar for upcoming events and follow us on facebook!
We always welcome new members, so if you are looking to join or are just looking for more information in general feel free to look around the site. We have a variety of both competitive and non-competitive players and we encourage people of all skill levels to come out and play! About the club
WPI Club Tennis is awesome because it's not as time-consuming as a varsity sport and we would never get you super committed to it. All we want is to bring together members of the WPI community who share the love of playing tennis. We hit every day (when weather permits) and we try to improve your game by challenging you with drills and matching you with competitive opponents.
We welcome two types of players; recreational and competitive. If you wish to just come out and hit once in a while and improve your game or if you just want some gym credit and get out of our sight ASAP, you're considered a recreational player. If you're more passionate about your game and you yell and stomp your feet when you don't make the perfect shot, we consider you to be a competitive player. Competitive players generally are more committed to club tennis and wish to participate in tournaments and matches against other tennis clubs. Last year, (08-09) we competed in 2 tournaments, and held at least 5 matches against other university clubs. Our competitors include Northeastern, UMass, Yale, Harvard, UVM, UNH, Tufts, and BC. During A term, tennis is offered as a gym credit course. Gym credit days are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6 pm. You can come play, sign your name, and you will be credited with playing time to count towards your final PE grade. Just so you know, we don't supply tennis racquets, only balls! In addition to playing tennis, we form a number of social events so we can connect as students and encourage interaction outside the courts. We hold barbecues and dinners and all that fun stuff. Sometimes we even carpool to DAKA. ;-) The yucky part is, we have to charge club dues (eek!). In order for us to provide you with rides to matches and food to curb your hunger, we need some money! We only ask for $10 from the recreational players and $40 for the competitive players. Keep in mind, that competitive players have first dibs to play during the winter when we rent out indoor courts for C term! If you are a competitive player, consider yourself like a "Gold Star Member" when you fork over your 40 bucks. If you're interested in joining Club Tennis, just stop by the courts and introduce yourself. We're more than happy to see new faces. If you have any questions, you can write on our wall or send us an email at tennis-officers@wpi.edu. |
