Hi there, and welcome to my website! My name is Sami, and I am currently a junior at the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science, informally known as Mass Academy or MAMS. Scroll down to learn more about me!
At my sending school, Algonquin Regional High School, I was on the robotics Team 1100, which competes in FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition). In 2022, my rookie year, I helped manufacture and assemble the robot for the game Rapid React. During the 2023 game, Charged Up, I was the operator on Team 1100's drive team. I also contributed to many aspects of the robot, particularly with designing the floor intake. In 2023, we went all the way to the FIRST World Championship in Houston, TX, where we got to compete alongside the 600 best robotics teams in the world. Recently, I have joined Team 190, Mass Academy's robotics team.
When I was 5, my musical journey started with the piano. Two months later, I began taking violin
lessons. After a couple years and two teachers, I joined the Worcester Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.
After two years of the WYO, I auditioned for the Boston Youth
Symphony Orchestras (BYSO). I was placed into the Young People’s String Orchestra
(YPSO). I progressed through the program, joining the Junior Repertory Orchestra (JRO) a year
later and the Repertory Orchestra (REP) as the pandemic struck. Then, in the 2022 season, I
placed in the Boston Youth Symphony (BYS), the highest level orchestra in the BYSO. Every year,
the BYS performs a full opera with professional
singers: in early 2023, we performed Berlioz’s “Damnation of Faust”. This year, I auditioned for
and joined the Boston
Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, a prestigious youth orchestra for high school and
college-aged students.
In 7th grade, I auditioned for the Central District
Junior Festival orchestra. I was placed as concertmaster, but due to the Covid-19
pandemic, the festival was canceled. While I have been unable to participate in Districts for
the past two years, I plan to audition for the Senior Festival this year.
Currently, I am also a violinist for the WPI Philharmonic
orchestra.
My most prominent physical activity is archery. I also play tennis on occasion. Some possibly interesting things that I do include: lockpicking, crocheting, speedcubing, origami, (in the process of learning) sign language, having perfect pitch, and composing (extremely poor quality) music, among others.
