A Brief Bio
Silvia
Jimenez is currently a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department
of Mathematical Sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She obtained her Ph.D. in Mathematics at
She
received
her Bachelor's degree
in Mathematics from Universidad de Costa Rica in 2002
and her Master's degree
in Mathematics from
Her
current research centers on Homogenization of Nonlinear Elliptic Partial
Differential Equations. She is interested in researching the effect
of microstructure on the solution of Partial Differential Equations.
"Mathematics is not a deductive science, that's a cliche. When you try to prove a theorem, you don't just list the hypotheses, and then start to reason. What you do is trial and error, experimentation, guesswork."
