News Post ArchiveOctober 31, 2010 Happy Halloween everyone! It's the best time of year for free stuff! Free candy and free potential items at tonight's IFC Casino Night. Tonight is not only the beginning of a dentist's rush, it also is the beginning of formal rush here at WPI. Following tonight there are house tours on Monday and Tuesday, so be sure to visit all of the houses. And start to rush! This is a great time of year for free food, free things, good times, and the chance to meet lifelong friends. If you choose to Rush Sigma Pi, we'll have our Rush calendar posted on this website. October 4, 2009 This weekend Sigma Pi hosted the first of what may be a continuing tradition in our efforts to support the Sam Spady foundation. We call it... Guitar-A-Thon. Brothers gathered at the Campus Center with their amps and guitars, big and small, electric and acoustic to perform music for the campus and to draw attention to our organization's official charity foundation. Brothers who didn't play guitar also sat in on games of Rock Band to pass the time. Upon the campus center's closing, we moved our operation seamlessly to the Wedge between Morgan and Daniels Halls where we spent the remainder of our overnight. All in all, we spent just under a full day from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. We hope you had a chance to come by and check us out. Keep an eye out on campus for our next event this year! September 24, 2009 This past weekend, the brothers of Gamma Iota chapter traveled to our annual regional conference in which the members from all the chapters in our region (essentially the New England area) are invited to one of the chapter houses for informational meetings and brief seminars, networking and fun. This year the conference was held at Alpha Upsilon chapter at the University of Rhode Island (URI). In attendance besides Gamma Iota and Alpha Upsilon were our brothers at Fitchburg State (Eta Tau), Johnson & Wales (Eta Omega), Bridgewater (Eta Eta), Bentley (Iota Theta) and representatives from one of the newest Sigma Pi colonies, Keene State. After attending various beneficial seminars facilitated by a mix of Grand Council members and other Sigma Pi officials, including our Province Archon Jeremy Boylan, we joined our brothers from other chapters on their lawn for a quick round of wiffleball. We also had time to pose for a group photo on their rock, at the edge of their back yard. We look forward to seeing everyone again at Convocation this summer near Boston! August 26, 2009
Today, we were honored to have to opportunity to appear prior to alcohol awareness speaker Dan Duval to introduce our official philanthropic effort, the Sam Spady Foundation. The speaker was integrated as part of the New Student Orientation program for incoming freshmen and transfer students. Philanthropy chairman Zack Garbowitz gave a brief explanation of the mission of the Sam Spady Foundation, and introduced the Sam Spady card, which you can learn more about on our Service page. After Mr. Duval concluded his speech, brothers of Sigma Pi distributed the Sam Spady cards to students as they exited the auditorium. Our thanks go out to Jim McLaughlin (Campus Center) and Dan Duval for helping our chapter pursue the goals of our Fraternity. August 16, 2009
Our individual achievements this year should paint a picture of the diversity among our members. One of our brothers, Shawn Wilhelm, applied and was accepted to the Order of Omega. Brother Sean Seymour placed among five finalists in the President's IQP Awards for his outstanding IQP in Hong Kong, PRC in 2008. Three of our brothers were elected to serve on the Interfraternity Council (IFC). Countless other brothers entered new responsibilities in their respective organizations: SocComm, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Racquetball Club, Tennis team, Ultimate Frisbee club, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Rho Beta Epsilon (Robotics Engineering Honors Fraternity), Campus Hearing Board, and more! So, what's next for Sigma Pi? Look out for us on campus, or check back here to see what we're up to. |
