My name is Shivani Gupta, and I’m a Junior at Mass Academy. I was raised in Shrewsbury, where I attended Shrewsbury High School. Scroll to learn more about me!
My family consists of my mom, dad, and older sister, Aastha. She is 24 years old and currently working full-time in Melbourne, Florida. I love spending time with her! Every summer, I fly down alone to visit her for two weeks. We usually go to Disney and Universal Studios on the weekends. My family also loves to spend time together by playing strategy board and card games such as Catan.
I began rowing for the Shrewsbury High School Girl’s Crew team in the fall of my freshman year and fell in love with it. Although grueling, it has taught me to push my limits and work out of my comfort zone. With that, I was able to become the only freshman on varsity. Crew taught me the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and trust. I am truly grateful for the memories, laughs, and family it has given me. I look forward to the regattas this spring!
I had taken an interest in music from a young age. I was intrigued by singing until I picked up the flute in 5th grade. I also took up the Ukulele, for which I am self-taught. However, amidst the pandemic, I joined choir and absolutely loved it. Now, you can always find me humming or listening to music. I find that music is really important to understanding people’s personalities. Click here to listen to one of my favorite songs!
For as long as I can remember, I have attended Shishu Bharati, an Indian school teaching kids K-8 about their Indian heritage. I started in my mom’s kindergarten class and attended until graduation in eighth grade. After graduating, I began volunteering in the Hindi classes, as that was the language I took, and helped teachers communicate with parents and teach the class. I made some of my best friends at Shishu Bharati and am excited to return this year.
I love baking and trying out new recipes. I often browse social media and the internet to find new recipes. My favorites usually come from Sally's Baking Addiction or Fresh Bean Bakery! I usually give my new treats to my friends and family to try– I love seeing their reactions!
STEM Week was an opportunity for students from Mass Academy to visit the Abby Kelley Charter Public School and provide STEM lessons to middle school students. With this, we got to take on the role of a teacher by planning and running our interactive lessons. Through these lessons, we could teach about evolution and the engineering process in a fun and interactive way. It was rewarding to see the kids have fun while learning about something we are so passionate about.
At the First Lego League Robotics held at WPI, I ran a stand along with two other students and Mrs. Ludes to spread the word about Mass Academy. Through this, I got to bond with my peers over the experiences we had at Mass Academy, and share that with others.
