WPI SFS - The WPI Science Fiction Society Defending the galaxy since 1974

December 5, 2007 - In Loving Memory of Our Dictator-For-Life

It is truly a sad day in the SFS, for our Dictator-For-Life, as it turns out, does not in fact have an infinite supply of energy. But more on that later! Let's get this whole "Minutes" thing underway.

Jon wants YOU. To run for SFS office! It's that time of year again, folks. See what Jonny has to say here!

Friday Gaming will commence "as usual", by which I mean something super important is also happening at about the same time as Friday Gaming. See below to find out what that super important thing is!

Sunday Magic is happening this Sunday (GASP) at 1pm in the Campus Center! Except this time it's a $3 popper tournament (Commons only). There is free pizza and prizes to be had! Whoo!

Wednesday Sci Fi... is over! For a while, anyway. M. Wixon is taking a (WELL-DESERVED) break from WSF after realizing he was losing his marbles due to the extreme amounts of driving and extreme loss of sleep. And what better film to go out on than Army of Darkness? He may return with it in the future, but it won't be at the start of C Term.

The super important thing eluded to earlier just so happens to be... the Constitution Meeting! As Jon has already told you, this Friday at 6pm in SL105, we will be going over the Constitution to fix it and correct loopholes and the ilk. It's really important for the club and its members, so if you can be there, please do.

After the Constitution Meeting's done, you can come down the hall to SL115 where Kilroy Sketch Comedy is having its B Term show, "Sofa King Kilroy". It starts at 8pm (though we won't mind latecomers by any means). Come see why TV is rotting our minds, and why we freaking love it!

There are some LARPs coming up in the near (and distant) future!

The Game of Empire is happening from February 8 - 10 at RPI, and costs $10 to enter. Contact andrew@foambrain.com for more info.

Void Stalkers is happening... sometime! It costs $25, check out void.turtleshell.com for more details.

Lullaby of Broadway is a broadways off, in the FAR DISTANT FUTURE of September 2008, in the FAR DISTANT LAND of Maryland. Also $25.

Brandeis is CALLING ALL LARP HEROES! Go to brandeislarp.com. Also, the Festival of the LARPs is happening from April 4 - 6.

The SFS Library now has a LibraryThing account! A billion thanks, and twelve tasty donuts go out to our awesome alum donor. Check it out! It's also linked from the SFS website.

So, in case you haven't heard, the Writers Guild of America is on strike (and is hitting some awesome shows like Heroes and Battlestar Galactica pretty hard). On December 14, at the Meeting House of the First Parish (Unitarian Universalist) Church in Harvard Square, writers, fans, and maybe even some celebrities will be assembling, and then marching in rally on the Harvard Lampoon building, the starting block for hundreds of amazing comedians.

Du-Gi-Oh! has received... PANDORA'S BOX. Full of... YU-GI-OH CARDS! GASP! On Friday, see him during Gaming to learn how to play, and maybe even make a deck or two. Holy snap!

Alex Camilo wants to see if people are interested in watching some Miyazaki films. Email him at alex.camilo@gmail.com

Nominations have opened for SFS Officership in 2008! Nomination goes as thus:

You nominate Someone in front of an officer, or on the officer list.
Someone accepts (or declines) and is added (or not added) to the list of candidates.
On January 16, 2008, we will have an election for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

You can nominate by email (and if you do, please CC the nominee), but it would be really helpful if you could do it with an officer present in realspace. If you are interested in being a Librarian, or a GAC Head, or (should it be approved by the club) an Events Coordinator, contact an officer and you can be added to the list.

The current candidates are:

President
Cthulhu
Robyn Colopy
Rick Desilets
Josh Luther

Vice President
Hastur
Michael Hyde
Sam LaFleche
Josh Luther
Rick Desilets

Treasurer

Krissy Davenport
Doug Gardiner
Josh Luther

Secretary

Rhiannon Chiacchiaro

Nominations are still open, so feel free to nominate people you think should be an officer in 2008! See you all next week!
