WPI SDC WEB PORTAL

Most of what we have to teach you about dancing at WPI is easier to communicate in person, but to make things a little easier for you we've thrown together this sheet of information. If you have any questions you can e-mail us at sholzknecht@wpi.edu or talk to us on AIM at WPISDC - hope this helps you get dancing!

Big Events are the tiniest part of SDC! If you want to see us really shine, visit our weekly events! At sdc, social dancing is the way we recharge our batteries for classes! As many of us have discovered the hard way, working 24/7 won't get you any where. When you're tired out and can't do your best, come dance!

Socials

Every Tuesday we meet up on the Campus Center Stage (bottom floor, next to the food court) at 7pm for our weekly social. Many of us meet in smaller groups to dance and relax during the week, or to help each other with classes, but socials are when we all get together. If you haven't seen someone for days because they're working hard on a project or studying for finals this is the event they come out for!

The atmosphere is typically easy going and many SDC types pick the social as the first event they drag a non-dancer to since there are always friendly experienced dancers around to give out an informal lesson on the fly. Dancers and Non-Dancers a like often come just to listen to the DJ and socialize even if they're just dropping by to say hi - and who could forget the classic WPI tradition of drinks and ice cream at the CC after an evening of dancing?

Lessons

Weekly Lessons give us inspiration, instruction, and NEW MOVES! We hire different instructors for different dances regularly to keep things fresh and we even offer gym credit! If you want to improve your dancing and meet people this is a good place to start!

SDC for Physical Education Credit

Still have those pesky gym credits to complete? Like to dance or want to learn? Then you're in luck! Social Dance Club has its very own gym credit course where you can come to our lessons, events, and socials and earn PE credit for it. Cool? Yes!

Being part of the SDC gym class is easy. After you register, simply attend our events as you normally would- socials, dances, trips, etc. Everything counts towards your grade! Grades are given based on attendance of events over an entire semester- either A/B terms or C/D terms.

Enrolling in SDC PE for C/D Term of 2011

Grading Based on Participation

-One large event is required for the course, but any additional events attended can earn up to 2 hours each.

-Lessons count for one hour each.

-Tuesday socials only give one gym credit hour per social. Any additional hours you attend a social for will not give credit, but we encourage everyone to stay anyway to dance and have fun!

Dress & Etiquette Tips

Dress is always casual at SDC events (well almost always!) so comfort is key since you'll be moving around. This doesn't mean that you can't use the dance as an excuse to dress snappy though! As we always say - club attire is the way to go!

Another important thing at any dance is footwear. You don't need anything special but you need to be able to move - so you might want to avoid flip-flops and open-heeled shoes for ladies.

Finally we come to a more serious topic - etiquette! At SDC there is one rule and that is having fun! To get along at SDC we have a couple recommendations for you:
