Notices

All teams must provide a Bill of Materials which includes the cost of all components on the robot from the additional materials list.

Your team number must be visible on your robot per rule 3.4.3. Your assigned number is available on the Savage Soccer website. Teams must also have a place for a robot flag per rule 3.4.4.

In order for your robot to work correctly with the competition software, you MUST use the easyC Template, available on the Savage Soccer website. If you are not using the template, you will not pass inspection.

A revised competition day schedule is now on the Savage Soccer website.

Notices

To obtain your easyC license(s) please have the head mentor who registered your team email Dan Larochelle at dlarochelle@intelitek.com and request your license(s). You will receive one license of easyC V2 per team you have registered in the competition. The email must be sent from the same email account used to register your teams.

Additionally, the original field drawing on the website had the dimension of the PVC pipe for the dispenser as 5" pipe. This was an error and has been corrected. The part is made from 4" Schedule 40 PVC pipe.

Q&A

Q: The list of non Vex parts shows adhesives as acceptable parts, but duct tape is not allowed as a structural component. Does this mean that it would be acceptable to make a conveyor belt from duct tape and/or utilize duct tape to pick up ping pong balls?
A: Duct tape may be used to make the conveyor belt itself, but may not be used to support any structural parts of the robot. In addition, no adhesive part of the duct tape may touch any part of the field, as it would be considered contamination per rule 3.4.5.
Q: "The total retail cost of items used on the robot which are from the Additional Materials list or which are non-mechanical Vex parts must not exceed $250." per rule 3.5.4 Does this mean that we don't need to record the cost of mechanical vex parts like metal, wheels, and hardware?
A: The only items which must be accounted for under the $250 limit are motors, servos, sensors, pneumatics and any other items listed on the Additional Materials list. Items that do not need to be accounted for under the cost accounting limit are the price of the initial Dual Control Starter Bundle (or equivalent parts), any Vex mechanical parts (wheels, treads, metal, hardware, etc.), additional batteries, controllers or crystals.
Q: Rule 2.3.4.2 says that 8-Balls scored in a COS will gain points for the corresponding coalition in autonomous. If a red robot places an 8-Ball in the SOJ that is controlled by the blue coalition and then tips it to the red side before autonomous ends, who gets the points for the 8-Ball?
A: "Corresponding coalition" refers to the coalition who controls the COS at the end of autonomous. In this case, the Red coalition would receive points for having an 8-Ball in a COS controlled by the Red coalition at the time that autonomous ends.

Thanks to a generous donation from intelitek, every team is eligible to receive a fully licensed copy of easyC V2 free! To obtain your copy, go to www.intelitekdownloads.com, click on the easyC V2 graphic, and then download a copy of easyC V2 for Vex. You may download as many copies with a thirty-day trial as you wish. We will be sending out an email to all team main contacts about obtaining a license once the team list is more finalized.

Team numbers have been assigned to every registered team. Please check what your number is on the Teams page and remember that it must be displayed on your robot per the rules.

Q&A

Q: Can you use foam rubber as a building material?
A: Foam rubber is an acceptable building material up to a nominal thickness of 3/4". Any amount may be used, as long as the cost accounting meets rule 3.5.4.
Q: Are parts from the VEXplorer kit allowed under additional publicly available Vex mechanical parts? Specifically would the claw be allowed?
A: All mechanical parts available for purchase from the Vex website are legal, including the components from the Vexplorer kit. NOTE: The motors and other electronic components from the Vexplorer kit such as the motors, radio receiver, and camera are not allowed.
Q: Can you use plastic cutlery such as plastic sporks as a building material?
A: Plastic cutleries are permitted.
Q: Can a lazy-suzan bracket be used as part of a mechanism on a robot?
A: A lazy suzan bracket is legal as long as any sheet-metal components are no thicker than 1/8 of an inch.
Q: Would knocking over the dispenser be considered damage to the playing field?
A: The TBS is held to the carpet by Velcro and is designed to operate only in an upright position. Therefore, knocking over the dispenser will be considered field destruction and is subject to all terms of rule 2.7.12.
Q: The additional parts list says that any vex motors can be used. Does this mean that we can use more than the 3 motors and 1 servo included in the starter kit (as long as we stay with in the $250 extra parts limit)? For example, would 4 or 5 motors and no servos be acceptable?
A: The Vex "Starter Kit" has been made obsolete by IFI and replaced with several new starter bundles. We have changed the rules from previous years to reflect this change. Teams are now allowed any of the parts included in the Vex Dual Control Bundle, as well as an additional $250 in parts. For example, the Vex Dual Control Bundle includes four motor modules and no servos. If a robot has five motors and one servo, the team must include only the extra motor and servo in the $250 limit. NOTE: While the Starter Kit Is no longer available, teams do not need to replace any of their components or hardware due to this change.
