Rule Updates
Rules Clarification # 1
1.) The rules state that the minimum score is -10. Does this mean that negative scores are not multiplied? If negative scores are multiplied, the minimum would be -10*5*5*2^8 (all enemy balls in your goal, all friendly balls on pegs and doubler chute.)
The rules have been updated to cover this. We have removed the comment about the negative score being -10. The section on negative points will be left as is. You may draw all of your conclusions about negative points from there.
2.) How will the elimination match pairings be decided? Will there be a seeding round, randomly, etc?
There will NOT be a seeding round as there has been in the past. The elimination matches will be randomly decided.
3.) May we buy our own materials from the outside, supplied by MaMaS list? IE: could we use our own rubber band or string? If not, are replacements available if a team destroys the provided materials?
We’re going to stay with FIRST precedent. Either from provider, or, if self-procured, must be functionally identical. If on the "Outside Materials" list, items actually on the car cannot exceed the quantities listed.
4.) The chasse of the car (everything under the lexan plate) is what needs to be placed inside the designated area, correct?
The entire vehicle needs to be within the confines of the designated area. We will put a taped area that will also be on the field diagram. Also keep in mind the 12" square constraint...
5.) Can we buy anything at Radio Shack (under five dollars) and use it, even if it increases the number of items on the materials list which have a specified number?
We have specifically said no additional motors or batteries may be procured, and personally I find it difficult to believe you can buy additional Q-tips at Radio Shack... However, in keeping with the FIRST model, stated material limits are limits--so the answer would be No. The confusion that we have two separate material lists online, -has been fixed.
6.) Can you win a game with negative numbers (i.e. who wins the match if the score is -3 to -1, or if the scores are -1 and 0)
See earlier negative score clarification. (# 1)
7.) When can we see/use the completed (everything is fastened the way it will be for the match) playing field, and who do we contact to arrange a private appointment?
There will be 3 changes to the field altering the way it was viewed the day of Kickoff: 1.) The foam pads will be glued down (probably hot glue)
2.) The ramp will be screwed down to the foam pads at the top and to the field floor
3.) There will be a taped area (see # 4).
The field diagram will be on the web ASAP.
As for practice times, anyone wishing to practice on the field under private conditions can email me and I will try to arrange a time to have a supervisor available. Please send suggestions for times you would prefer. Also, we will be setting up times (15 minutes in length) after break for teams to reserve. These times will be available to be reserved soon, so keep checking the web.
