Why Sigma Alpha
Epsilon?
Academics
The primary reason for
coming to WPI is to obtain a high quality education. At SAE, we take great pride in our
academic achievements. In the past ten years we have consistently been one of the leading
fraternities academically, and our brothers have been active members in every scholastic
honor society on campus.
Within the fraternity, the assistance which can be provided to underclassmen from upperclassmen who
have finished their first, and second years of courses in their major cannot be
over-emphasized. Brothers also benefit academically from taking courses with other
brothers, as well as from an extensive library of past notes, books, and exams. Finally,
SAE has an academic advisor on campus to act as a liaison between the fraternity and WPI's
professors, and to provide academic assistance when needed.
The Department of Health, Education, and Welfare affirms that
Fraternity membership has been clearly associated with the persistence to
graduate. The percentage of fraternity members who continue to graduate is much
higher than the overall campus percentage.
At SAE, a high academic standing is strongly encouraged, and our goal
is for every man who joins to fulfill his potential through a well-rounded and complete
education.
Social
On the WPI campus, social
activity is a much needed escape from our daily academic tasks.
SAE offers one of the fullest social calendars on campus. Our
reputation for quality weekend parties is well established on campus and at other colleges
in Worcester. This social calendar is supplemented by various other activities such as
competitions within the
house, formal dances, and events with other fraternities and sororities. In addition to these events, the house often takes road trips to
sporting events or other schools for some memorable experiences. The social season
concludes with our annual and incredible Paddy Murphy Weekend, which pays tribute to our
graduating seniors and also celebrates the end of the academic year. At SAE, we also
realize the importance of parental involvement. We hold several annual events to encourage
this participation, such as parents' day, family barbecues, and several others.
The social activities at our house are optional for everyone and as responsible brothers
we know how to balance the fun with our academics.
Community
Service
As an organization of
over forty men, SAE has the opportunity to assist those who are less fortunate in the
surrounding area of Worcester. Community service will challenge you to open your mind to the
difficulties that some face. At SAE, we realize that this service is greatly needed, and
every brother gives his absolute commitment.
Each year, we hold Halloween and Christmas parties for the Friendly House of Worcester. We
also continuously help organizations such as the Worcester Battered Women's Shelter and
Special Olympics through various events and fundraisers.
We have also recently teamed up with the Children's Miracle Network, a national
organization existing to support disabled children through care and research. Last year,
we raised over $2000 for the Children's Miracle Network, and presented this donation to
them while participating in their annual Genesis Fund Picnic.
Our community work projects serve as a good cause and get us involved working for the
benefit of the community. One of our creeds at Mass Delta is to leave this place better
than we found it. Through community service we do just that!
Alumni
A strong house is built
by the support and guidance of its alumni. Mass Deltas alumni are an integral part
of
everyday life. Their
devotion to the house is unmatched. Our alumni frequently come around the house just to
see how were doing and meet up with old friends. The House puts on many alumni
events geared to reunite brothers and share the legacy that is Mass Delta.
