We use genetic and genomic approaches to identify genes and map networks that systematically decipher how a benign commensal becomes a serious pathogen in the context of a host organism.
Adhesion to the surfaces of medical devices and host cells is crucial for fungal biofilms. We have identified filastatin, a novel therapeutic and/or as a coating for medical devices that inhibits adhesion to polystyrene, silicone mesh, and cultured human epithelial cells (PNAS 110(33): 13594-13599).
