I apologize for the delay in the minutes this week as the new president, the pirate officer, the officer of opposition and I had a rather urgent adventure to embark on. We did find Candy Mountain and we all successfully got back with our kidneys still intact. I felt everyone would be content with waiting a little longer to receive the minutes, than getting them hours earlier with a quality akin to the cookies in DAKA that have been there for days, or weeks (nobody knows); it does the job of a cookie, but leaves you longing for something more. That having been said, we go on to the to the minutes...
While waiting for the meeting to begin and for everyone to arrive Rhiannon graced us with the information that "[She] love[s] cookies!"
A variety of life forms showed up, along with figments of the presidents' imaginations.
The presidents waited for the opposition to show, and then began the meeting.
So, Higgins Armory Magical place it would be awesome if we went there. The interest for Higgins Armory was 11 out of the 12 people in attendance. Due to information given by the group attending the meeting, March 7th sounds like the best opportune date to go. It is the first Saturday of break and our advisor will give us the Curator's Tour of the Armory. It is demanded that you should go and have fun! Also, wearing garb is encouraged although not required (the Officer of Wenches says that she, however, will be making it mandatory as she will be wearing garb.) We will get back to you on specific times and travel details. Those of you who will be left out (including yours truly) because of break time will have the opportunity next year; I promise plans will be made earlier.
Upcoming Realms events and what I found important from the Pirate's descriptions:
KOEF: at UConn run by Knights of the Eternal Flame; tournaments, combat, rubber ducks and fun.
Mantle of Air: not Fae plot or anything you (may) have been in, need players and npc's. (also fun)
Savory Delights 2: You might want to consider being a vegetarian after this event; yummy, yummy food cooked by a vegetarian (i.e. no meat) but still fun.
Feast of Chimeron: This is its 17th year of being a feast with questing. This year, there will be Bois, Bois, Bois, Bois, and guess what: Bois!
Apparently there is a difference between KOEF questing and KOEF tourneys, something about bois...
Closer to home we have:
'O Brother, Where For Art thou?' on March 6th. Our fellow group member (and Officer of Opposition) Ben is event holding this newb friendly adventure in Riley Commons. This is also good for newer people who want to try combat-style LARPing that eventually leads to other combat LARPs, or the SCA (Society for Creative Anachorism). For additional information on this or other events you might be interested in, visit http://www.realmsnet.net .
Getting back toward the weekly campus going-ons:
Last night's workshop was spinning! Not the you turning around kind, the kind where you make wool into yarn and thread and stuff you can use to make other stuff.
Next week: workshop on Liar's Dice after the meeting (exact time and place TBD). It's fun! Trust TRUST US WE DEMAND IT. Bring your friends so we can have millions of people come.
More workshops to come that haven't been planned include:
Sewing (stitch and [w]itch)
Weapon making (pipe and gripe)
Fun with yarn (knit and stitch)? (questionable according to interest)
Medieval Gaming with the SFS (Chris should ask because everyone loves him)
Sewing 201- how to use patterns to make what you want
Hand Kissing and Cloved Fruit
Celtic Knot work
Another Tactics Session
Western Martial Arts (Learning about European Knight Stuff)- the Officer of the Intertubes and the Officer of Shepherding Newbies t let us skip this one.
We have 9 weeks left of meeting-type things this term so s looking like we have things covered until next year, but if you have something that you really, really want us to squeeze in for you, spam us on the list at smas-officers@wpi.edu.
The last point brought up was April 17th! A lot of people had different opinions on what this day is for giving us answers such as:
Celina's brother's Birthday
Rhiannon's father's birthday
Nothing at all!
But the correct answer is that there is Bardic Circle! That fun, fun event that I will spare you the details of again until next term providing you promise to be there.
Until next week, this has been your Secretary, Melissa. Show up next week, because a week is a long time and I will miss you.
You hear the room burst out into a rather catchy tune...
And then the Officer of Opposition flatted everyone...
That's pretty epic right there.
Secret Pirate Officer: *in agreement* Yarrrr-ow my jaw!
You watch as your friends leave to play D&D out in the coldness. There's a MILF sitting cross the room, watching episodes of Heroes, as a vegetarian and a werewolf crash castles together. There's also a pirate doing something on the couch...you have no idea what, and you don't think you even WANT to know.
The pirate looks up at you, and grins. "I'm stealthy!"
You roll your eyes and address the vegetarian: "How does this sound? The 7 o'clock meeting started promptly at 7:30-"
"Everyone's dead except Austrailia!" she shoots back.
"ON FEBRUARY TWENTY-FIRST!" you glare at her, continuing on, "is the Knight of the Eternal Flame Tournamnets (KOEF) and our advisor wants to do the Higgins Armory Trip. We'll be looking into other dates for the trip; information to follow."
"Sounds good," says the werewolf, and he snarls at the barbarian hordes on the wall.
"Next week, there is a spinning workshop run by Megan immediately after the meeting. We think it's in the Morgan Conference room but we'll let you know. Two weeks from now (the 17th) there will be a Liar's Dice 'workshop' after the meeting (location again to follow). Other workshops we are considering
We would love to do siege weaponry but unfortunately
-We can't wage war on the school!
-We're a poor club-bug Eric to get us more money
Small trebuchets might be a better option come springtime - bug us
again in d-term
"That is a LOT!" says the MILF to you, an astonished look on her face. Meanwhile, the pirate is hanging out in doorways, looking at people, trying to hang out in a back-lit alley...but there aren't any in the dorm common room. "What happens if they have more ideas?"
"Email the officers' list with other ideas or talk to us in person," you reply with a nod. "There's also last, but not least, the April 17th Bardic Circle."
"Where's that?" asks the MILF.
"It's in Higgins House," you say. "There's going to be delicious food, singing people, skits, sock puppets, poetry, Happiness, joy and yells the vegetarian, who then dodges a barbarian off the wall.
You roll your eyes once more, and glance down once more at the minutes. You try to think of something witty to end the minutes with, and type: Fairy tales were originally not the fuzzy warm stories that you thought they were, not until Disney sunk their claws in them...
"Apparently presidents must be biter," quips the werewolf.
"What about secretaries?" asks the vegetarian.
"Well, I have an iron will," you respond.
"And SMAS actually has a somewhat current website!" The short red-head instant messages you from her laptop.
So there you have the minutes from me on pain killers, with a little assistance from our newly appointed Secret Pirate Officer (Janna). It seems as though I will be writing them from now on, unless our former secretary/newly elected president wants to do them for old-times sake. Over the next few weeks our new Officer of the Intertubes (Hillary) will be updating the site (http://www.wpi.edu/~realms) and you will soon be able to read the minutes there as well as in your email.
Until next week, walk safely; it's slippery out there
*bounce bounce bounce*
Wait what?
Who me?
Oh, right,
We had a meeting this past Tuesday, but then you might have guessed that since that's when we normally have meetings. You probably also remember that we have fight practice in Riley commons, on Monday, starting at 7:30. And that we have newbie practice Wednesday starting around 7:30 as well. You're smart though, so you knew that.
We will be visiting Higgins Armory on March 21st, which should be a lot of fun. We will likely get a guided tour from Prof. Forgeng, our advisor.
Bardic Circle will be next term, April 17th. Fun will be had by all (or not really)).
There are things to do this weekend! Friday is a friends of Chim party, poke the list if your still looking for a ride.
This Saturday is Birka, midieval shopping! There is a charge to get it but it is a great opportunity to shop at better than Ren Fair prices!
And now, for the moment your waiting for, elections! We have new officers!
President - Elyse
Vice President - Celina
Secretary - Melissa
Treasurer - Eric
Oh wow, me? President? I'm so flattered!
I should go...prepare...yes...
Here ye! Here ye!
I would like to formally invite you to SMAS's Medieval Ball!
The ball will be this Saturday, the 24th from 5 to 10 pm, in Alden Hall. The ball is welcome to everyone, so feel free to bring your friends. There will be lots of dancing, free food, and general merrymaking.
If you would like to help us table sit for this event, please email me the times you can. Or you could just show up, that works two.
Bardic Circle will be in C term, on April 17th, for all who were interested in the date.
SMAS meetings will be taking places in different places this term, either the Morgan room or the Forky conference room in Herrington. Next week we will be in the Forky conference room.
Next s s we will be voting on officers for the next year, be sure to come to the meeting and see who will be elected.
Fight practice continues to be on Mondays in Riley commons at 7:30,
and newbie practice is on Wednesday, meeting at 7:30, and then going
to find space were we can.
