Meeting Minutes 2004

Wednesday, October 27, 2004

The first meeting of B-term was held today and there were many fewer member than normal in attendance. The first agenda item was the Medieval Manor trip tomorrow. The bus will be leaving at 6:15 pm from the quad so don't be late. If you don't have a ticket yet there were two left as of a few days ago. The tickets are $5 each.

There was a brief mention of activities being held by Higgens Armoury this term. More information on the programs can be found at the Higgins Armoury website: http://www.higgins.org/. All wpi students are automatically museum member and most of the programs are free.

Megan mentioned that a lunar eclipse will be occuring tonight. It will be visible around 9:15 and will be in totality around 10:30. It was also mentioned that likely the red soxs will win the series, the moon will be eclipsed and the appocalypse shall occur in that order.

SMAS shall be trick-or-treating this Sunday so show up in the wedge in full garb/costume. The exact meeting time has not been established yet but will most likely be around 5 or 6 pm.

Fight Practice continues to occur on Mondays at 7:30 and Newbie Practice at 7:30 on Thursdays. Practice shall continue throughout the year and move indoors when the weather dictates.

There shall be caroling in full garb before christmas.

Upcoming events: Feast of Ivory next weekend.

The website is in a stage of updating this year. If you would like to submit photos, art, or other content e-mail it to meganw@wpi.edu.

If you would like any of the following to occur this year e-mail realms@wpi.edu or come to meeting to express interest, these things will most likely not occur unless sufficient interest is expressed:
-advanced weapon making, include what type of weapon you would like to make
-chainmail making lesson
-leather making (a vague possibility)
-advanced garb making

Finally, as always come to the next meeting where much shall be discussed.

The meeting was held in the Morgan Room of the Campus Center as usual. The first order of business was a reminder that garb making will be held tomorrow from 6-10 in founder's basement.

The black and White Masquerade will be held this comeing weekend and smas will be covering the event fee for members.

The website is being updated and if anyone would like to submit content, art, or photos e-mail meganw@wpi.edu.

The next monday fight practice will be off single shorts. Come and pick up a new weapon combination, monday 7:30-whenever on the baseball field.

October 14 will be the Newbie Night Quest so stick around after exams and beat on some monsters.

Garb making will be this thursday. details will be discussed at the next meeting.

Newbie Night Quest will on the last thursday of the term from 9-11 pm.

The Black and White Masqerade Ball (not SMAS sponsered) is October 2-3. SMAS people will be going to this. If you want to go and would like smas to pay for you, it is highly reccommended that you come to the next meeting. highly recommended. (and only DUES PAYING MEMBERS may have it payed for)

Remember only dues paying members may participate in smas sponsered activities. The moral: pay your dues its only $5.

Once again the meeting was held Wednesday, 6:30 in Morgan Room of the Campus Center. Another attempt to collects was made, if you have not already paid your dues please bring $5 to the next meeting or find Mike the treasurer and give him the money. or if you can't get to the meeting or find mike we would even settle for you finding any officer. pay dues.

This sunday is international talk like a pirate day. incidently somewhere there is a pirate faire this weekend. some people seem to be going to that, if you want to go, you might spam the list for a ride, or someone who is going might spam the list offering rides.

Next weekend we will be going to the CT Renn. Faire. SMAS will not be covering the cost but it is only $12 per person or free if you volunteer to run a booth or something. We will be discussing rides to the faire at the next meeting.

King Richard's Faire, we will be going to King Richard's Faire some weekend before 10-24. Tickets will be $5 and good for many different days you might choose to go. We will discuss this further at our next meeting.

Weapon making will be next thursday, 9-23 from 6pm-about midnight. come and make weapons (if you have paid DUES)

Garb Making will be the thursday after weapon making, 9-30. More information about that at our next meeting.

Newbie Night Quest will be Oct 7. Meeting at 7:00 in the wedge and going until its finished, 12-1ish.

The Black and White Masquerade (a realms event) is October 2-3. SMAS may be covering the cost, express interest in this. Black and White will have questing, feasting, dancing, and carnival games.

Finally the Medieval Manor trip is October 28. There will be medieval food (no utensils allowed) and a show. SMAS will be covering part of the cost so it will be $5. We will be meeting at 6pm.

The meeting was held at 6:30 pm in the Morgan Room of the Campus Center. Apparently some of you had difficulty finding this. Let's repeat: WEDNESDAYS 6:30 PM MORGAN ROOM CAMPUS CENTER. Be there, hand over your five dollars, sign form.

Dues were collected. Sort of. Come to meeting, bring money ($5).

Fight Practice will be held every Monday at 7:30 on the quad or lower field.

Newbie Fight Practice will be held every Thursday (unless otherwise stated) at 7:30 on the Quad or lower field.

SMAS has purchased 25 group discounted tickets to King Richard's Fair, these will be free to SMAS members who are full-time WPI students. The tickets will be $5 for all non-SMAS members. If anyone asks you paid $5. The trip is planned for 9-25, rides provided. The tickets are also good for other "group" dates. See the King Richard's fair website for details.

The weapon making session will be held Thursday, September 23 instead of Newbie Fight Practice at 7:30. This is free for all SMAS members. (give us dues!)

The garb making session will be held Thursday, September 30 instead of Newbie Fight Practice at 7:30. This is also free for all SMAS members (again pay your dues!)

The Newbie Night Quest will be held on Thursday, October 7 from 7 - about midnight (whenever plot is finished).

There will be a trip to Medieval Manor (medieval show and food, excuse to wear chainmail in public) the evening of Thursday October 28. Leaving at 6 pm. This will cost $5.

There was discussion of planning something involving getting The Catapult and throwing fruit around somewhere. Please respond with ideas related to this (or better yet come to the next meeting and discuss it, you know you want to play with the catapult).

The Black and White Masquerade (a Realms event) is coming up October 2. SMAS has in the past covered the cost of this event for its members. Express interest if you would like this to happen again this year.

Minutes:

Introductions were made.
The officers are:
President - Nick Contrino
Vice President - Megan Williamson
Treasurer - Michael LaBossiere
Secretary - Katrina Hull

The anti-hazing policy was read.

A trip to Medieval Manor has been scheduled for October 28, a thursday at 6. Cost will be shared with Soccomm and tickets will be $5 for all dues paying student members.

A trip to King Richard's Fair has been scheduled for Saturday, September 25. Tickets will be free to all SMAS student members and $5 for all non-SMAS members.

Fight Practice will be held each Monday at 7:30, on the Quad or lower field.

Belly Dancing is held every Teusday at 7:30-9:30 in Founder's Basement. Everyone is welcome to attend that, if you go you must participate.

DUES will be collected at the next meeting. Dues are $5.

Remember the next meeting is WEDNESDAY at 6:30 in the Morgan Room of the Campus Center.
