Philanthropy

Philanthropy and community service are part of the reason that Phi Sig exists today! Our founders believed in giving back to the world around us. We actively work to support The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation, on-campus efforts, and community efforts.

The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation is a non-profit organization created in 1969 as an extension of the Phi Sigma Sigma Philanthropy Fund. Since the Fraternity's founding, members of Phi Sigma Sigma have always been active with philanthropic endeavors. The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation encompasses all of our fraternity's educational and philanthropic funds. The Foundation carries out that basic principle of the creed set down by our founders so many years ago: "To the brotherhood of man and to the alleviation of the world's pain."

Phi Sigma Sigma's recognized philanthropy is The National Kidney Foundation (NKF). Through the Phi Sigma Sigma foundation, all chapters of Phi Sigma Sigma participate in fundraising efforts toward NKF.

The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation provides scholarships and grants to undergraduate Phi Sigs and make considerable donation to the National Kidney Foundation. Over the years, Phi Sigma Sigma has provided funds to support summer kidney camps for children with special needs related to kidney disease and research grants to help the medical community find a cure for kidney related disease. These are just a couple of the efforts that Phi Sigma Sigma has been involved in with the NKF. To date, Phi Sigma Sigma has contributed over $250,000 to NKF.

Participating in Philanthropic events is very rewarding for our chapter. It gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the world and help others. Through volunteer work and raising money we have supported many important causes. We raise money for Foundation, which supports the National Kidney Foundation as well as various Phi Sigma Sigma scholarship funds through a variety of different events.

Here are some of the philanthropic projects we've done in the past year:

Phi Sig had its Third Annual Silent Auction this past Homecoming along with the Third Annual Jump-A-Thon. The Jump-A-Thon was a blast for us because while raising money, we were having fun too. Together with Alpha Tau Omega, we jumped for 48 hours on a trampoline on the quad.

In early February, Phi Sig and the brothers of Zete participated in the Rock-A-Thon that many chapters take part in each year. Along with these major events, our chapter holds smaller events such as bake sales. All proceeds from our philanthropic events went to the NKF.

This past spring we also worked with Sigma Phi Epsilon to sell Shamrocks for Muscular Dystrophy and joined them in the MS Walk in Worcester.
