Article I: Name
The name of the organization shall be the Newman Club of Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Article II: Purpose
To foster the spiritual, intellectual, social and cultural interests of the college community.
Article III: Membership
Membership in the WPI Newman Club is open to any student who is interested in the club's purpose.
Article IV: Structure
The Newman Club will consist of six committees and one major board. These committees will be the Eucharistic Ministers, the Hospitality Committee, the Social Committee, the Greek Committee, the Liturgical Committee and the Ecumenical Committee. The major governing body will be known as the Newman Board.
Article V: Officers
  1. The officers of the Newman Club will be a President, Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer.
  2. The President will be the official Newman Club representative. He/she will also call meetings of the Newman Board and will help facilitate communication between the committee.
  3. In consultation with club advisor, the President is also responsible for appointing the chairpersons.
  4. The secretary will maintain the official records of the club.
  5. The officers will be voted on at all Masses held on campus during a Sunday in C-term from a list of candidates recommended by a nominating committee, This committee will be the clubs advisor and the present officers.
  6. Officers' terms will be for one year and will begin the day after D-term ends.
Article VI: Meetings
Meetings of all Newman Club will be called by the President. Meetings of each group are to be run under Robert's Rules of Order unless it conflicts with this Constitution. The frequency of the meetings of each committee will be determined at the first school year meeting of that group. Committee meetings are called by the respective chairpersons.
Article VII: Newman Board
  1. The Newman Board will be to main governing body of the WPI Newman Club.
  2. A representative from each committee and the Newman Club officers will sit on the Newman Board.
  3. The Newman Board will help organize, through the committees or its own, the activities of the Newman Club.
Article VIII: Eucharistic Ministers Group
The Assembly will meet at least once a year to decide on any questions put to it by the Newman Board. The Assembly will be made up of all lay Eucharistic Ministers in the Roman Catholic Church at WPI.
Article IX: Liturgical Committee
The Liturgical Committee is made up of at least two (2) people. The committee will be responsible for the Folk Group and in planning Liturgical Celebrations on campus.
Article X: Hospitality Committee
The Hospitality Committee will be made up of at least two (2) individuals. This committee will be responsible to organize religious events that will benefit not only the WPI community, but also selected groups and individuals who need assistance.
Article XI: Social Committee
The Social Committee will be made up of at least two (2) individuals. This committee will be responsible to organize events that will promote the unity of the campus community by bringing its members together for selected functions.
Article XII: Ecumenical Committee
The Ecumenical Committee is made up of at least two (2) people. The committee will be responsible for outreach to other religious groups on campus.
Article XIII: Greek Life Committee
The Greek Committee is made up of at least two (2) people. This committee will be responsible to assist the club in relationship to the Greek Communities on campus.
Article XIV: Amendments
Any amendments may be made to the Constitution with a positive vote by of at least 2/3 of the members of the Newman Board.
Article XV: Implementation
This Constitution will supersede all past Constitutions of the Newman Club since its acceptance on the WPI campus by President Hollis in 1915.
Enabling Clause:
The Newman Club agrees to abide by the policies of Worcester Polytechnic Institute as well as all federal, state and local laws. Any changes to this Constitution and/or bylaws will follow, in word and spirit, all WPI policies and all federal, state and local laws.
