My name is Melissa Farraher. I live in Hudson, MA with my father, my mother, my younger sister, and my dog. Last year I attended Hudson High School. Hudson High is a relatively small school of about 1,100 students in grades 8-12 and about 200 in my graduating class. This year I am attending Mass Academy in Worcester, MA which only has about 50 students in my grade. The transition between schools has been a little difficult based on the size of the schools and my commute to school everyday, but I am really enjoying this new learning environment and I am learning a lot about myself as a person.
In my free time, I play softball. I am a pitcher and a first baseman. I have been playing softball since 2nd grade, from 2nd grade to 6th grade I played for a recreational league in Hudson. When I went into 7th grade I decided to play for a travel team, and since then I have played for Central Mass Storm, Metrowest Thunder, Central Mass Destruction, and Metrowest Eclipse. During my freshman year I played on the varsity softball team at Hudson High, but I decided not to play during my sophomore year or this year. Although I no longer play for my sending school, I do continue to play for a travel team named Metrowest Eclipse. I played on the 18u black team this past summer and I am excited to be playing for the same team this coming summer.
In addition to playing softball, I have been taking karate classes and competing in tournaments since I was 6 years old. I take classes at a local studio called Metrowest Tang Soo Do. This studio is located in Hudson, MA and currently offers classes 3 days a week. My studio offers many opportunities to compete in local tournaments. There are 2 tournaments that I usually compete in every year and during the summer I attend the summer camp. Recently I received my second degree black belt at the annual American Tang Soo Do Association’s summer camp. Also when I received my second degree, my sister received her first degree which was a very exciting experience.
