Each year, I typically advise two types of MQP projects.
First, as a faculty member in the area of structural engineering, I advise projects that focus primarily on structural engineering, such as bridges, buildings, and off-shore structures. Students interested in completing an MQP in these applications are expected to have an educational background that includes mechanics, structural analysis, and pre-professional design courses, such as CE3010, CE3006, CE3008, and CE4017.
I also co-advise a number of projects involving the integration of two or more Civil Engineering areas, such as structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and construction project management. The success of these projects depends on student
groups with complementary educational backgrounds.
