Welcome!

Lilian Amer

INTRO

Hey everyone, my name is Lilian Amer, and this website exists to show you all a little bit about myself!

I’m a junior at the Massachusetts Academy of Maths and Science at WPI. I’m originally Turkish Iraqi, but I was born and raised in Oman. From there, I moved to Boston, then to Brookline, and later to Wayland, and finally to Holden, Massachusetts. I have two brothers, one who’s in med school and the other who’s in 7th grade. My mom’s a dentist, and my dad’s an orthopaedic doctor.

HOBBIES

In my freetime, I love to paint, draw, make ceramics, write poetry, bake, read, and ice skate. In case you couldn't tell, I also LOVE fashion! One of my favorite hobbies is watching movies, and I just finished a 2000s chick flick movie marathon with my friends! Some of my favourite movies are Ten Things I Hate About You (1999), Brick (2005), Heathers (1988), and Dead Poets Society (1989). My favourite books are The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Home Is Not A Country by Safia Elhillo, and A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman.

OTHER EXTRACURRICULARS

I also love to write, and I participated in Brookline High School's Story Hour program in 2023! Additionally, I ran the Red Cross Club in Wayland High School in which we participated as members of the Youth Action Campaign in 2024, and I also volunteered at Language Virtual as the Curriculum Coordinator. During the summer of 2024, I spent a lot of time in dental offices as I gained valuable insight into the field of dentistry by shadowing dentists of all specialities.

At MAMS, I also participated a lot in the Brickyard Beat and as a member of the Biotechnology club. Those were really fun experiences as they weren't anything quite like other clubs back at my sending school. During biotech, we got to learn more about proper lab etiquette by conducting experiments on drosophilia, an experience that was especially informative. In Brickyard beat, I participate a lot by writing articles. Take a look at one of my most recent articles here, also featured on the Brickyard Beat website here.
