STREAM B (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering and Mathematics) at the Mass Academy is a C/D term class that engages students in solving an engineering problem.
Students spend one and a half terms in teams developing their products. As part of their project, teams design and build a prototype of their product. In addition, they develop marketing tools that include a website, color brochure, and business cards. At the end of D term, each team presents their product to a panel of engineers.
The theme for the past two years of this course has been Assistive Technology. We have partnered with the Worcester Public Schools to design and build assistive devices to help students with disabilities achieve their goals. Some student groups have reached out to assist people in their communities.
Mass Academy also participates in the Assistive Technology Design Fair, administered by the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Twelve student teams traveled to Lowell and present at the fair on Saturday, May 16, 2009.
