Humanities, in which we are learning about the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, is taught by Mr. Ludt. We are creating presentations about topics in the Renassance in preparation for spending time with the Walden Chamber Players. It is a Mass Academy tradition for the Juniors to spend part of a week spending time with the Walden Chamber Players and learning about the time period they are playing from, culminating in a concert at the end of the week. I researched books and publishing in the Renaissance.
Samples of Work
The first essay was about some aspect of humanity in Book 6 of the epic poem the Illiad by Homer. I chose to write about different human relationships: filial, marital, and fraternal. The second essay we wrote was a comparison of the three epic poems Beowulf, Song of Roland, and Nibelungenlied. These were epic poems from the 8th and 9th century, written down in the 10th or 11th century. For this comparison essay, I chose to write about pride as a warrior's downfall. Another essay was a comparison of the analysis of the coquet's heart and the beau's brain in Addison's Spectator articles. The most recent essay was about the story Maggie, Girl of the Streets. I chose to write about the twisted biblical references in this story.
