More about me...

Right about now you are probably asking yourself "Just who is this Joe Krzeszewski guy anyway?" * Well here is your chance to find out.

My life's story; the short form...

I was born in Erie PA in 1974. My family moved to Texas when I was five and that's where I grew up. Sort of a transplanted Yankee. This of course least to very interesting discussions regarding rednecks, yankees, southerners, and the like. I get to play switch hitter.

Over the years I have had interests and or hobbies in a variety of areas. I think it all started when I was about four or so with erector sets. Those were fun, but I kept loosing the screws. I rapidly moved to Legos and whiled away many a happy hour playing with them (I still do on occasion, I now have a sizable collection....) I am not really certain how the next transition happened, but I developed an interest in electronics. To be truthful, I think I liked how resistors looked with the neat color bands and such. Well, thus began my tinkering in electronics. Many a decrepit old radio was sacrificed to the curiosity gods to further my education. This of course leads to my interest in radios. I started with crystal radios and got good results with those, but wanted to do more. So in 1987 I got my Technician class amateur radio operators license. By the way, the call sign is N5LHF.

At or about the same time my family got a computer and I started to play with it. Well, you guessed it, I do computer stuff too. In fact, I presently do more computer stuff (see my employment section) than I do mechanical stuff, which is odd for a Mechanical Engineer.

I was always intrigued by the computer generated commercials on TV. I always wanted to do something like that. Finally I found POV. The Persistence Of Vision freeware raytrace program. Cool. I have done some scenes, mostly for my favorite club on campus, Lens n Lights. I recently did my first animation! I have an animated gif of it online if you want to see it. (Warning! 237K!)

Well, really I haven't managed to do that much LnL recently. I have had to drop most of my LnL activities as well as my volunteer EMS duties. Too many classes and not enough time. I have to graduate.

    Employment & Projects

I am currently employed here at WPI in the College Computer Center as the student hardware specialist (A really fancy title meaning that I get called on to fix the hardware problems that the work study students can't). One of the side benefits of working where I do is that I get to play with equipment and programs that I wouldn't normally have access to. Sometimes this leads to interesting projects like "Wakko" the CCC-Shop Windows NT server. The most recent little project is my MINIX box. MINIX is one of the oldest and most forgotten UNIX clones. I have installed MINIX on an unused 286 sitting in my room. I call it Scrappy. But wait, my projects are not limited to my work environment... I do all sorts of little projects on my own....

    * Alright, so you probably aren't asking that, this isn't exactly realtime video conferencing (thank God!) so I have to ask the questions for you.
