Humanities

Class Info

Humanities is one of my more interesting classes. In this class, we learn about the history of many civilizations (for example, Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt). We cover topics such as their political systems, their art, and their literature. We normally finish chapters by reading excerpts from famous works of that civilization (such as The Iliad and Oedipus Rex). The teacher, Mr. Ludt, is very interesting. He knows a lot about humanities and has travelled all over the world. It's always fun hearing the stories that he has about his experiences at some of the places we read about, which really puts the material in perspective and helps us visualize what it was like.

Sample Work

Three Epic Essay: An essay comparing and contrasting the Epic of Gilgamesh, The Odyssey, and the Aeneid.
Egyptian Religion: A paragraph about Egyptian religion and its effect on art and architecture
Flood Myths Essay: An essay about different flood myths around the world
The Spectator Essay: Joseph Addison wrote a daily newspaper called The Spectator. Two issues in particular, one about a beau and one about a coquet, are very interesting. This is a comparison-and-constrast essay written about the two issues.
Maggie: A Girl of the Streets Essay: An essay about Stephen Crane's "Maggie: A Girl of the Streets". I found this book to be a worthwhile read and I think I did a pretty good job on this essay. This was the final essay of the year for Humanities.
