Guerilla Improv performs improvisational comedy. Improvisational comedy is a spontaneous form of theatre that is inspired by the audience and so is never the same show twice. Suggestions such as places, opening lines of dialogue, television shows, emotions, etc. are supplied by the audience. Then the suggestions are stretched to the wildest depths of the imagination and explored by the players who use an arsenal of games and scenes of humor -- all produced on the spot! The comedy is created by and for the audience and so participation is more than requested, it is required!
History
Guerilla Improv was formed in B Term of 1999 by Chad Pytel. The group had their first performance in the C-Term Masque show, and then went on to perform on and off campus for the rest of the year.
At the end of the school year, Guerilla Improv broke away from Masque in a bloodless coup and formed WPI Improv Comedy, becoming an officially sanctioned WPI student organization. In 2001, Kilroy was formed, WPI's first sketch comedy troup. WPI Improv Comedy was then morphed into Student Comedy Productions, to house both organizations. Guerilla Improv is the improv front of Student Comedy Productions.
Today, GI continues to perform improvised comedy both on the WPI campus and off.
