If you're like me and have sent 2,000 emails this term, then you're looking forward to the break Ireland will give you from computers and technology. You may want to set up your WPI account with a vacation message, so that people who email you while you're gone will be informed of your absence.
The easy way is to visit http://www.wpi.edu/+vacation and fill out the form there. (You may need to point your web browser directly to https://www.wpi.edu/Aca demics/CCC/Help/vacations.html) You can also do it manually, by following the directions given below.
Once you've logged into Unix, type "vacation -i" (without the quotes) to initialize the vacation program. Then type "pico .forward" (again, no quotes) to enter a text editor. You should be in a blank file; just type
\kgagne, "|/usr/ucb/vacation kgagne"
where "kgagne" is your username, and save the file (^X). Be sure to use the quotemarks this time! Then type "pico .vacation.msg" and create the email that people will receive when they email you. A sample one is provided below. Any questions? Email me.
Hi,
This is an automated response to your email. I am offline and enjoying the scenery of Ireland from Thursday, March 1st, to Sunday, March 11th. I will get to your message once I am back in the States.
Thanks,
-Ken Gagne
