About the WPI EBOT Program
EBOT Educational Robotics is a coordinated effort between a WPI student project
group and the WPI/Mass Academy FIRST Robotics team. The goal of the WPI EBOT
program is to
improve science and engineering education through the use of affordable robotics
programs. The WPI EBOT program includes mentor training materials/seminars,
recruiting materials, curricular guidance for classroom incorporation, and a
complete set of rules and guidelines for running an annual tournament.
The WPI EBOT program helps students develop skills in teamwork, problem solving, and
resource management, and provides an exciting atmosphere for learning the
fundamentals of engineering and computer science.
The complete WPI EBOT
program includes mentor training materials/seminars, recruiting materials,
curricular guidance for classroom incorporation, and, of course, a complete
set of rules and guidelines for running an annual tournament.
Our goal is to bridge
the significant gap between programs like BEST (low cost, accessible,
student-oriented, but very limited in sophistication, especially in
programming and autonomous behavior) and FIRST (very capable, great
opportunity for technical innovation, autonomous/programming headroom, but
very high cost, huge commitment, and often not student-oriented).
We had
14 teams from 7 different high schools compete in our
tournament on December 5th, 2004. This year's WPI EBOT project will not be complete,
however, until early spring when we have had the opportunity to
gather feedback from post-season surveys and teacher/student testimonials.
If you are interested
in starting your own robotics program, please feel free to use any parts or
likeness of our game or program that you wish, as long as proper credit is
given to WPI and the WPI EBOT program.
