About Us
The Chinese Student Association (CSA) was established in 1990. Our main goals are to provide students with an awareness of the Chinese culture and customs, to help undergraduate and graduate students in adapting to WPI's social life, and to pursue academic excellence by mutual cooperation among the student members. The membership is open to all WPI students who have an interest in and an appreciation of the Chinese culture.
"Dragon" is the logo and symbol that represents CSA at WPI because traditionally Chinese people believe that we are the "Descendants of Dragon". Our organization is an active participant of various on-campus events and sponsors several programs such as Chinese Corner and Dumpling Program. Our main event, Dragon Night, has been held for over 15 years now and is widely known in WPI.
In WPI, there is another Chinese student organization called Chinese Student and Scholar Association (CSSA). While CSA is mainly an organization of undergraduate students, CSSA is a graduate student organization. These two organizations usually work together to serve the Chinese students in WPI.
Dragon Night
The Dragon Night is an annual celebration hosted by the WPI Chinese Student Association. It is the biggest event of the year for our organization. Dragon Night usually features Chinese food, lion dancing, and other elements of Chinese culture. Therefore, this event not only dazzles the WPI community with incredible talent shows every year, but also provides a perfect opportunity to show the Chinese traditional culture and values. You can see the videos of the past event to get more familiar with the Dragon Night.
Hot Pot
CSA holds a hot pot dinner every year. Hot Pot refers to the Chinese style of stew, consisting of a metal pot at the center of the dining table. The ingredients that can be put into the hot pot include sliced meat, leafy vegetables, mushrooms, wontons, dumplings and seafood.
Moon Festival
Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节), is a Chinese celebration that is held every year on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar to worship the moon as its name indicates. One of the traditions during Moon Festival is to eat Moon Cakes!
For the Moon Festival, CSA prepares a dinner each year, including moon cakes and entertainment in the form of live performances!
Spring Festival
Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year (春节), is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. The festival usually begins on the first day of the first month in the Chinese calendar. At the Spring Festival, Chinese people carry out a lot of traditional practices, which include having dumplings, setting off fireworks and visiting friends and relatives. Here, in WPI, CSA prepares a spring festival dinner each year to celebrate the most important day for Chinese people.
